everyman jack

every-man-jack-2008-lg.jpg

So this is a random post. I useĀ Everyman Jack products each day…face scrub, face wash, shaving cream, face lotion. What can I say…I like my grooming products! Well tonight I signed up for their Everyman Jack contest…mainly because I’ll get a coupon for a free product. So not only do I like my grooming products…I like free stuff too. Later this summer, they will have voting for the winner…who will get a year’s worth of products. I’ll send you there then to vote for me!

simple church at rcc…

I mentioned a while back that our staff and leadership are reading together Simple Church. We’ve finished it now and are taking a hard look at things here at RCC…refining what we do and why we do it. It going to be a process for us…but I look forward to what God is going to do in us and through us as we sharpen our focus on helping people grow in their faith.

The Christian Standard has an issue devoted to the topic of Simple Church. They interviewed me as we were in the process…you can read the interview here.

music I’m listening to…

Just thought I would share some music that is constantly playing in my car and in my itunes…

Mat Kearney – City of Black and White – this came out last week and I’m loving it. He’s incredibly talented and creative…

Kari Jobe – she’s from Gateway Church and this cd is an addicting. Revelation Song is by far my favorite song on here…but give You Are For Me a listen as well…

The Fray – this one has been out for a couple of months…but I keep putting it back in the cd player in my car. Love it!

Hillsong United – A Cross//The Earth – ok, so this one just came out today and I haven’t listened to it yet…but anything from Hillsong United is good!

So tell me..what are you listening to right now that I should too?

amy petty

I’m so excited that our great friend, Amy Petty, is going to be a guest artist at RCC on the weekend of June 6th & 7th. She’s extremely talented, and it will be a true joy to have her join our team in worship. So if you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss this weekend.

a big day…

It was a big day in the Bortmess home. Aubrey lost her first tooth! She has been telling us for about six months that she has a loose tooth…and finally today, her wish came true. I wonder how much the tooth fairy pays for the first tooth?!

another question to ponder

So I’ve still be wrestling with this question

But today I read another question on Mark Batterson’s blog. It’s giving me more to think about…

He quotes Craig Groeschel at last year’s Catalyst: “Does your heart break for the things that break the heart of God?”

I’ve been asked that question before…and it’s caused me some heartache. It makes me look at my life…my ministry…every aspect of the way I live each day. It makes me think of how I see others…and how quick I am to judge. Truthfully…it brings conviction. Does my heart break for the things that break the heart of God? Something more to wrestle with…

a new look

Earlier this week, I played around with the design/layout of my blog. I guess I have to admit that I get bored with design…I always enjoy the change in look. It keeps things fresh… and it keeps me interested.

And speaking of design changes…my friends at Manchester Christian Church recently updated their site. I love its new look and feel. They work with Plain Joe Studios and have had some amazing stuff from them the past few years with their branding and design. Good stuff!

Aubrey and Grandma…

Last week Aubrey and Colin both performed at the school Fine Arts Festival. Lynda caught this pic of Aubrey and Grandma Bortmess after the performance…

Sadie, the wonder dog

Sadie turned 11 years old this year…she’s been with us in 3 states! She’s been a great dog… but this past month, she’s just not been herself. Sleeping a ton, getting sick a lot and leaving surprises on the carpet for us to discover when we come home. We finally decided she needed to go the vet to see what was going on.

Last week, we discovered the problem. After a series of x-rays, a foreign object was seen in her stomach. We weren’t sure what it could be…maybe a baby pacifier? Or a plastic popsicle stick. Whatever it was, it was in the way and causing lots of issues.

So last Friday, Sadie went in for an endoscopy to retrieve the object. And here’s what we found.

We have NO idea what this little toy bear is…we’ve never seen it. We have no idea where it came from. And how in the world was she able to swallow it whole? I’m still amazed they were able to bring it back out too… All we no is she somehow ate it, and it was the source for all the issues.

So, Sadie is fine…she’s got her spunk back. And we’re keeping an eye on her…who knows what she’ll eat next!
