pray for Colin

Colin is having out-patient surgery tomorrow… nothing major, just an adnoidectomy (I love that word) and new tubes in his ears. He had tubes put in about two years ago, but he is having problems again.

We’re reporting for surgery bright and early in the morning. I’ll update my Twitter status as we know things.

***Update: Colin did well and he’s home recovering. We were in and out very quickly… Thanks for the prayers!

3 days without my MacBook

About two weeks ago, I noticed that the letter p on my keyboard wasn’t working. I made a phone call to AppleCare (love them!) and they told me I would need to take it in for repair. No worries — I’ve got 63 days left on my extended warranty!

And then…it started working again. So I didn’t take it in.

Monday this week, same thing started happening. Except by Tuesday afternoon, it still wasn’t working. So I took it in to my authorized Apple dealer…

I’m on my third evening without it…and it’s killing me!!! I’m hoping to get the call tomorrow that it’s ready for our reunion!

a thought about inconsistency

Andy Storms wrote a post today that captures some things I’m really struggling with right now too. He’s asked for some help and input… take a stroll over to his page and see if you can’t help him out!

we’ve got a working toilet again!

and the cause of the back-up? one baby-doll bottle that Addison got for her birthday. And that $2.99 bottle from ToysRUs now has cost us $217.99

Now the question remains: was it Addison or Ethan who shoved in down the toilet and flushed?!!! I guess we’ll never know!

praying for our friends

Our friends Todd & Gretchen Magruder left on Friday for Ethiopia. They are adopting a six-year old girl and are there to bring her home. We are so excited for them…and are praying for them now.

You can read their story on Gretchen’s blog. I went to Eastern Illinois with Todd & Gretchen…after school, they moved to Springfield area and now live in Rochester. It’s been fun to get to work alongside them here at RCC after so many years.

If you have a moment, offer up a prayer for their growing family.

you gotta read this — The Road

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while but each time I think about, I don’t have my MacBook handy.

I recently finshed Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and all I can say is ‘amazing.’ Yes, it was one of Oprah’s books…but that’s not why I read it. On a couple of recommendations from some friends who are very well-read (I don’t consider myself in that category!), I decided to pick up a copy.

It’s a gripping story of a father and a son as they travel along in a post-apocolyptic world.  The father’s determination to safely lead his son to a better place (although he doubts a better place exists) is both inspiring and moving. I was brought to tears…literally…as I finished the novel…and thankful that I had read it.

The father’s love for his son was so strong… I could draw out a lot of analogies here… but I think the best thing I can do is to recommend this one…you gotta read this.

Aubrey’s Elegant Event

The Kindergarten classes celebrate the letter E with an Elegant Event. The kids are encouraged to dress up for the day, and they are served a three course meal on tablecloths by waitresses and are even presented a bill (to pay with their pretend money) with a mint. Aubrey wore one of her princess dresses for the special occasion and was really excited as I dropped her off at school.

Lynda stopped by for the event. She caught this picture of Aubrey as she is instructing her table to raise their ice cream cups and say “cheers.” Leave it to the pastor’s kid to want to raise a glass!

the best place to play

we’ve had an eventful week in our home. Ethan learned how to climb out of his crib… well, it’s probably more like climb over and drop out of his crib. We’ve also had ongoing fights with a fascination with the bathrooms. So much so that our hallway bathroom toilet is clogged…most likely with one of the twins new birthday toys: a artic sled dog. We’re awaiting the plumber’s return to either get it out or replace the toilet…that’s how bad it’s wedged inside!

So when Lynda caught them playing in the bathroom sink during their birthday party, we decided to catch them in the act as evidence. I just don’t understand why the bathroom is such a fun place to ‘play.’
